Austin’s committment to the mining industry
We’re proud to announce the latest recipient of the Gold Level Austin Excellence Award, recognising a true trailblazer within the Austin Engineering family – Jamie Hall, Innovation Manager.
This award celebrates Jamie’s outstanding contributions to innovation and engineering excellence and reflects our ongoing commitment to acknowledging team members who drive impactful change, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and embody the Austin Values.
Jamie’s journey with Austin began in September 1991, when we were still known as Johns Engineering and Cranes—a small, family-run business in Kewdale with only 40 employees. From those early days, Jamie has played a pivotal role in shaping our evolution. His career progression—from Draftsman to Engineer, Design Manager, Engineering Manager, and now Innovation Manager—Mirror’s Austin’s transformation from a family business into a global force in mining equipment design and manufacturing.
Over the last 34 years, Jamie has been at the forefront of engineering development at Austin. Today, he leads the research and development of cutting-edge designs, including our custom haul truck bodies, excavator and loader buckets, face shovel buckets, dippers, water carts, service modules, and Tyre handlers.
A standout moment in Jamie’s career—and the project recognised through this award—has been the development of our HPT tray design. This initiative emerged from Jamie’s vision to evolve our truck trays based on market learnings and performance data. The result? A game-changing product that has now sold over 500 units worldwide, delivering 5–10% weight savings and setting a new benchmark as our lightest and most advanced tray design ever.
Jamie’s work has also led to multiple globally patented designs, further establishing Austin as an innovation leader in the mining industry.
